My favorite Dutch Guitarist/Bassist Sonia “Anubis” Nusselder

Biography

Sonia Nusselder (born 24 November 1998) is a guitarist/bassist with Dutch and Spanish origins. She first got in touch with music when she joined a church choir at age 10. Soon afterwards, she had the chance to learn some guitar chords to play along with the choir. Two years later, she started playing the transverse flute. After 3 more years, she lost interest in the flute and desired a more inspiring instrument. After being inspired by KISS in 2012, Sonia picked up the bass and learned every single song. Additionally, she took bass lessons at a local music school, where she discovered her passion for Jaco Pastorius and other fascinating bassists. By age 15, her music taste expanded exponentially as she developed an appreciation for everything from obscure death metal to mystical fusion jazz. After listening intently to guitarists such as Christian Münzner, Josh Christian, Greg Howe, Tony MacAlpine, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Benjamin Ellis, Alex Skolnick and Luc Lemay, she picked up the electric guitar in 2014 and taught herself their music by ear. Her passion for music never stopped growing as she practiced hours and hours when she got the chance to. Similarly, her passion for live performance and musical experimentation grew, as well. In 2015, the Dutch magazine Hmore featured her in an article about a musical talent class. At age 15, Sonia joined a local thrash metal band named Deamension, and then played live with old school death metal band Ecocide a year later. She eventually left both bands and joined melodic death metal Shade of Hatred as a permanent bassist which she left 2 years after.
Currently, Sonia plays in the bands Burning Witches which are part of the Nuclear Blast family, Sepiroth, Jackal and Ursinne as guitarist and bassist.
